Have some questions about Invisalign? 5 common queries answered

Clear braces

Are you an adult or teenager who is fed up with having misaligned teeth? In 2021, there are more options than ever before available to adults and teens with misaligned teeth, and few of them are the traditional metal brace. Indeed, it is now possible to have a brace fitted that sits behind the teeth or to wear an invisible aligner to correct orthodontic issues

As you may have heard, invisible aligners are becoming more popular than ever across dental surgeries, with more adults and teenagers than ever before wearing them in lieu of regular orthodontic braces.

So, what are some of the most common questions that have been searched in 2021 about Invisalign Wagga?

How often do I have to wear them?

As tempting as it is to take the aligners out and keep them out, in order to see progress, you need to wear them every single day. You can take the aligner out to eat food etc., but you will need to keep it in your mouth for a minimum of 22 hours per day. Failure to do so may result in a reversal of teeth movement, which can slow down the entire process and extend the treatment period. If you cannot keep them in, you may be more suited to a fitted brace.

Are they more comfortable than regular braces?

Yes, they are but don’t be fooled – there is no such thing as a completely comfortable orthodontic treatment. Any discomfort you feel while wearing this aligner should be manageable with over-the-counter pain relief. If it isn’t, then contact your dental team for an assessment, as the aligner may have warped in shape.

How long does the realignment take?

This depends on how severe the initial misalignment was and whether the use of the invisible aligner is on its own, or is part of an orthodontic treatment.

Many patients only wear this aligner for 3-6 months; should you need longer, don’t worry! This aligner works quickly and shouldn’t take longer than 18 months at the top end of the treatment time span.

Will I need lots of dental or orthodontic appointments?

No; one of the awesome things about this brand of invisible aligner is that you will usually be called in to see your dental team every 6-8 weeks, making it much more lifestyle friendly.

There is even an app on smartphones that assists in the appointment process; you simply take a photo of your smile and send it in to your team, so they can track the progress of your realignment from the surgery. This also allows them to spot any issues that may occur and call you in.

Do the results last?

Provided that you wear the retainer which is provided to you once the invisible aligner is off, there is no reason why the results won’t last.

Most teams will advise you on how long you need to wear the retainer for, so keep it in if you want that straight smile to last!
